History: The province of Zeeland, The Netherlands, early 1900's. The Ornee family made a monumentous decision to leave for America. First to leave were  Jacobus
(Jacob) Ornee and two sons, David Ornee, age 22 with Roelof, age 19. They
left from Zierikzee in Zeeland Province bound for America. They arrived
on the S. S. Rotterdam out of Rotterdam harbor to Ellis Island. They arrived
at Ellis Island on April 12, 1909.In 1911, the rest of the family left Zierikzee, again on the S. S. Rotterdam arriving Ellis Island on April 10, 1911. Evidently, Hendrik (Hendrikus) [Henry] was sent to join the other brothers in 1910 and arrived at Ellis Island on October 10, 1910, again on the S.S. Rotterdam. So the rest of the family arrived on the S.S. Rotterdam to join the rest of the family. Included in the 1911 trip was Elisabeth Ornee, 2nd wife of David Ornee, Jacob's mother, at age 73. |
